As a teacher, lawyer, housing advocate, political leader, protector of
workers’ rights, a father and a husband, Adam believes that we
must bring innovative, common sense, fiscally responsible solutions to
our pursuit of the traditional Democratic ideals of opportunity and
social justice.
A Teacher: Adam teaches Economics at East Los Angeles College.
He is a dedicated teacher and believes that education must be the
cornerstone of San Gabriel Valley’s economic growth. Adam comes from a
family of educators: his mother teaches high school, his father teaches
college, his grandmother taught grade school and his grandfather taught
at the New York City police academy. Adam has also taught law classes
to high school students.
A Lawyer: When Adam graduated from UC Berkeley’s Boalt Hall School of Law,
he became the first lawyer in his family. Adam practices complex
commercial litigation at the international law firm of Howrey
LLP. Adam also coordinates Howrey's efforts to provide free legal
services to numerous organizations that serve people in need throughout
Southern California. These efforts led to Howrey receiving Public
Counsel's Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year award in 2005.
A Housing Advocate: Adam is the President of the Housing Rights Center,
which fights for justice and equality in housing. Each year, HRC helps
secure the housing rights of thousands of clients in Southern
California. Adam previously served on the Board of the Fair Housing
Council of San Gabriel Valley.
A Political Leader: Adam
has been active with local, regional and national progressive political
campaigns and causes since serving as Student Body President at Pomona College. He is a founding board member of the Center for Progressive Leadership,
which is a national non-profit organization dedicated to training the
next generation of progressive political leaders. Adam is also
Controller of the Democratic Club of the Pasadena Foothills and a member of the Steering Committee for the Pasadena Area United Democratic Headquarters. Adam is also a member of the Pasadena Young Democrats,
the North-East Democratic Club, the La Canada Flintridge Democratic
Club, the Foothill Community Democrats, the Arroyo Democratic Club and
ACT.
A Protector of Workers’ Rights: Adam is currently a union member at East Los Angeles College (AFT College Guild 1521). Before starting his studies at Claremont Graduate University,
where he earned a master degree in Economics, Adam worked in Michigan
as a labor organizer with the United Auto Workers. While in law
school, Adam worked with the United Farm Workers in their campaign to
organize the strawberry industry.
A Husband and a Father: Adam first moved to the San Gabriel Valley when he was two years old. Adam and his wife Aman, who runs a nonprofit organization serving immigrant women and children who are victims of domestic violence,
now live in Hermon, which is a small community of approximately 3300
people, nestled between South Pasadena and Highland Park. Adam and Aman
love to hike in the San Gabriel Mountains and play soccer together.
Recently, Adam and Aman had a beautiful baby boy, Keeran.
