Nestled in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, the
44th Assembly District includes the cities of Pasadena, South Pasadena, Temple
City, Duarte, and La Cañada Flintridge; the communities of Altadena, East
Pasadena and Mayflower Village; portions of Arcadia and Monrovia; and the Los
Angeles neighborhoods of Eagle Rock, Glassell Park, Highland Park and
Hermon.
Almost 430,000 people live in the district. Our racial and ethnic diversity mirrors the
diversity of our state: approximately 10% of us are African American, 20% Asian
American, 30% Latino, and 40% White.
Over 2% of us are Armenian. Approximately 230,000 of us are registered to vote (48% as Democrats,
24% as Republicans).
There are more colleges, universities and graduate schools
in the San Gabriel Valley than in any comparable region in California. Within the 44th Assembly District, we have: Pasadena City College, Occidental College, California Institute of Technology (Caltech),
and Fuller Theological Seminary.
Our district includes the Angeles Crest National Forest and
the Arroyo Seco. There is phenomenal hiking in the San Gabriel Mountains
and soccer playing
throughout the district.
Our current representative to the California Assembly is Carol Liu, who will be
stepping down in 2006. We have a number
of active Democratic clubs and organizations in the area, including: Pasadena Area United Democratic
Headquarters, Democratic Club
of the Pasadena Foothills, 44th Assembly
District Democratic Party, and Pasadena Young Democrats.
